Police recorded Hadis’s statement over his claim US offered cooperation to topple BN govt. in 2014

KOTA BARU: Pas president Tan Sri Abdul Hadi Awang’s statement has been recorded by the Police over his claim that the United States (US) offered cooperation to topple the Barisan Nasional (BN) government in 2014.
Pas president’s political secretary Mohd Syahir Che Sulaiman said Hadi gave the statement in Kuala Lumpur several days ago.

“Tan Sri Tuan Guru (Hadi) has given a statement to the police several days ago in Kuala Lumpur. We understand that the matter is still under investigation and several witnesses have also been called.

“Further, Tuan Guru leaves the matter to the police and does not want to comment further out of respect for the investigation process,” he said when contacted by New Straits Times on Wednesday.

Media previously reported that Hadi, in his winding-up speech at the 72nd PAS annual muktamar on Sept 5, claimed several Pas leaders were invited to a meeting at the US Embassy during then-president Barack Obama’s visit to Malaysia in 2014.

He claimed the foreign parties had offered assistance to topple the government at the time.

The US Embassy, however, denied Hadi’s claim.

David H Gamble Jr, who heads the US Embassy in Kuala Lumpur, said the United States had never sought to determine Malaysia’s political leadership.

Following this, police began an investigation under Section 505(b) of the Penal Code and Section 233 of the Communications and Multimedia Act 1998 after receiving 12 police reports.

Meanwhile, Bukit Aman Criminal Investigation Department director Datuk M. Kumar said 12 police reports had been lodged over the matter.
