KUALA LUMPUR: Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim stressed that strengthening public service governance to curb leakages of public funds and abuse of power will be continued by the government, especially involving Federal Statutory Bodies.

He said the matter was among the issues discussed at the Special Cabinet Committee on National Governance (JKKTN) meeting, which he chaired, Thursday.

“I stressed that law enforcement must be accompanied by the continuous cultivation of integrity and good governance in the public and private sectors, as well as in society,” he said in a Facebook post.

He also mentioned that the meeting also agreed to conduct a legal study to formulate the policy and governance direction for a proposed Charities Bill to regulate trust entities and public funding.

According to him the move was crucial to ensure entrusted funds were managed transparently and responsibly.

Anwar added that the meeting also agreed to the proposed implementation of the ‘Cultivation of Public Service Values’ adding that the policy for the Statutory Bodies and Controlled Entities (Financial Governance) Bill would be presented to the cabinet this year to strengthen discipline and accountability in financial management.

Meanwhile he said the meeting also agreed to the seven resolutions presented at the Fifth National Level Governance, Integrity and Anti-Corruption Research Conference on Sept 25.

Anwar said the Madani government would continue to strengthen public service integrity and close avenues for leakages and abuse of power.

“Every ringgit of public money is a trust from the people that must be safeguarded, and every power granted must be used to guarantee their wellbeing,” he added.
