KUALA LUMPUR: Prime Minister who is also the Finance Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim has tabled the Budget 2027 themed “Reaching for the skies, while anchored on our values” allocates RM459.8 billion, comprising RM376.8 billion for operating expenditure and RM83 billion for development expenditure at the Dewan Rakyat, Friday
According to Bernama, the budget is also the second under the 13th Malaysia Plan (RMK13) and the fifth under MADANI Government that allocates RM80 billion for subsidies, aids and incentives next year.
Among the highlights of the Budget 2027 include the increase in the allocation of “Sumbangan Tunai Rakyat” (STR) and “Sumbangan Asas Rahmah” (SARA) to RM16 billion compared to RM15 billion in the past benefitting nine million recipients.
The summary of the Budget 2027 according to Bernama report are as follows: –
• Relief of individual tax & Tax: The individual tax relief increase from RM9,000 to RM12,000 and extended to care services after child birth and children’s tuition.
• Minimum Wage Rate: Increase in minimum wage rate from RM1,700 to RM2,000 monthly effective from June 2027.
• Gig & E-Hailing Workers’ Benefit: The government with Grab will finance the RM160 million package starting 2027 for e-hailing and p-hailing workers besides EPF matching contribution till RM600 a year.
• Education and Health: Education Ministry continues receiving the highest allocation of RM69 billion while the Health Ministry receives RM47.7 billion with permanent job offers to 9,000 contract doctors.
• Development of Local Authorities (PBT) & Cities: The allocation of PBT’s small projects increased to almost RM700 million while Kuala Lumpur City Hall (DBKL) allocates RM400 million to develop 48.56 hectares of new green areas.
• Development of Sabah & Sarawak: Sabah will receive RM18.7 billion while Sarawak RM16.2 billion besides RM3.3 billion specially for highway projects in the two states.
Meanwhile, Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Dr. Ahmad Zahid Hamidi said the RM7.9 billion allocation for technical and vocational education and training (TVET) under the 2027 Budget would support the expansion of industry-relevant courses and improve graduates’ employability.
He said the government would place particular emphasis on high-level TVET programmes through the National TVET Council, including training in robotics and other specialised fields.
Home Minister Datuk Seri Saifuddin Nasution Ismail said the RM21.98 billion allocation to the ministry under the 2027 Budget will strengthen security assets, border controls and technology to combat crime.
He said the allocation reflected the Madani government’s commitment to safeguarding peace and public order which he described as fundamental to national prosperity.
Defence Minister Datuk Seri Mohamed Khaled Nordin said the RM22.11 billion allocation for the ministry under the 2027 Budget strengthens the capabilities and readiness of the armed forces in defending the country’s sovereignty and security.
In a statement he said, he welcomed the allocation which represents an increase of RM361.95 million or 1.66 per cent from the 2026 Budget adding that of the total allocation, RM14.523 billion is for operating expenditure while RM7.585 billion for development expenditure.
Housing and Local Government Minister Nga Kor Ming said the government had allocated RM1.141 billion for the provision and maintenance of public housing including RM157 million specifically for the People’s Housing Programme (PPR) next year.
“With the allocation, we will be able to replace more lifts, repaint buildings and repair leaking roofs”, he told reporters at the Parliament after tabling of the 2027 Budget.
Nga said the government would also provide an additional RM20 billion in guarantees under the Housing Credit guarantee Scheme (SJKP) which is expected to benefit another 80,000 fist-time homebuyers next year.
