PUTRAJAYA: Effective Sept 1, the government will restore the monthly Budi Madani RON95 (Budi95) subsidised petrol quota from 200 to 300 litres, benefiting more than 16 million users.
Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim said the move was among six immediate measures introduced to ease cost-of-living pressures and support Malaysians ahead of the 2027 Budget tabling in Oct. 2026.
He said the government decided to act immediately instead of asking the people to wait for the Budget, as the pressures facing households and businesses could not be postponed.
“I had to find a way and take a step that would provide relief to the people,” he said during his National Day Eve address at the Putrajaya International Convention Centre (PICC) here Sunday as reported by NST.
According to Anwar the revised entitlement meant more than 16 million users would be able to purchase up to 300 litres of subsidised RON95 each month.
He also announced that more than 500,000 eligible owners of diesel vehicles, including four-wheel-drive vehicles and pick-ups, would receive Budi Diesel assistance of up to 400 litres a month.
The Budi95 quota was previously set at 300 litres a month before being temporarily reduced to 200 litres from April 1.
The price of RON95 petrol under the programme remains at RM1.99 per litre.
Earlier in June, the government set the basic Budi Diesel allocation at 200 litres a month, with subsidised diesel priced at RM2.10 per litre.
Meanwhile, Finance Minister II Datuk Seri Amir Hamzah Azizan said eligible diesel users with qualifying four-wheel-drive vehicles and pick-up trucks could apply for an additional 100 litres, bringing their monthly entitlement to up to 300 litres.
The nationwide implementation of the subsidised diesel pricing mechanism is carried out through a MyKad-based system, similar to Budi95.
Under the latest announcement, the maximum Budi Diesel entitlement will be increased further to 400 litres a month for eligible users.
