KUALA LUMPUR: The paternal grandparents of the autistic boy Zayn Rayyan Abdul Matiin,6, whose body was found near his residence at Idaman Apartments in Damansara Damai, 6 December last year were detained to facilitate investigations.

Selangor police chief Datuk Hussein Omar Khan had confirmed that the couple were detained at Subang Bestari, 2.30pm on Wednesday.

“Tomorrow at Petaling Jaya court, the police will apply a remand order on them,” he said.

The couple was said to have been detained by members of the Serious Crimes Division (D9) of state police Criminal Investigation Department.

Meanwhile earlier, the counsels representing Zayn Rayyan’s mother had objected to the police’s application to record her guilty plea before a magistrate today.

Counsel Fahmi Abd. Moin and Mahmud Jumaat made their objections against the police’s application under Section 26(1) of the Evidence Act before magistrate Zhafran Rahim Hamzah during proceedings held in chambers.

Mahmud said that the mother did not make any guilty pleas during the proceedings but had taken the opportunity to give statements on the entire incident as reported by NST.

Both counsels said their objections and the mother’s statements were recorded by the magistrate.

Fahmi said the 13 day remand order for the couple to facilitate murder investigations would expire Thursday.

“Tomorrow is the day of decision. I believe the investigation paper is with the Attorney General’s Chambers and we will know who will be released or who will be charged.
“There will be no more extension to the remand order,” he said.
