KUALA LUMPUR: Umno is calling for fresh polls and for the parliament to be dissolved as they can no longer coorperate with Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia (Bersatu).
Umno president Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi said that Umno had made it clear to Bersatu that Parliament should be dissolved by January 2021 and give way for the general election.
“However, since the pandemic was fast escalating, we agreed to give the premier’s post to the person whose party held the fewest Parliament seats, ” he told delegates at the party’s general assembly yesterday.
Cooperation with Bersatu will cease once Parliament is dissolved, he said, adding that “this is the decision made by the supreme council. Whatever decision it makes, will stay. ”
“Umno will never support that political pact. The grassroots have spoken, ” he said.
