KUALA LUMPUR: UMNO President Datuk Seri Ahmad Zahid Hamidi, who is also the Chairman of Barisan Nasional (BN), calls for the dissolution of Parliament and a new general election.

He said this yesterday after the opposition coalition, BN won Tanjung Piai by-election with landslide.

Zahid who is on trial for 47 corruption charges said all the opposition MPs are calling for a new general election.

“That is the stance of all the Opposition MPs. However, that decision is up to the prime minister.

“For us, what happened in Tanjung Piai was a signal. And the signal must be understood clearly,” Ahmad Zahid told reporters in Parliament, as reported by Malay Mail.

PH ousted BN government 18 months ago after it won the general election May 20018. Dr Mahathir became the Prime Minister of Malaysia but with the promise to hand power to PKR leader Anwar Ibrahim within 2 years.

Dr Mahathir released Anwar from jail and cleared him from the sodomy case of which he was serving 5 years in prison. Moreover, Dr Mahathir made an agreement with PKR and Dap and Bersatu that he would step down within 2 years.

However, Dr Mahathir seems to be not stepping down, and he has supports from other leaders to stay as prime minister for 5 years.
