Wife of Rohingya refugee hands over a memorandum to Human Rights Commission pleading for help and protection

KUALA LUMPUR: The wife of Rohingya refugee Zafar Ahmad Abdul Ghani has submitted a memorandum to Suhakam asking for help and protection for her husband whom she claims facing threats and intimidation.

Maslina Abu Hassan, who was accompanied by her son, said in the memorandum that her husband Zafar Ahmad Abdul Ghani, President of MERHROM, has been a victim of false accusations on social media on 21st April 2020.

” Since then, my husband, children and I have received thousands of threats, harassment and insults including death threats and threats to physical violence.

 “As a result of false accusations against my husband, we have been living in constant threats, harassment, insults, fear, trauma, hatred, xenophobia, confinement, isolation and depression since a year ago,” she said.

Zafar Ahmed came under fire by Malaysians since last year due to allegations that he demanded for Malaysian citizenship and equal rights for Rohingya refugees in Malaysia.

Apart from these accusations, he was also accused of insulting Malay, breaking the Movement Control Order (MCO), questioning Malaysian government for rejecting Rohingya boat people as well as demanding for Selayang.”

His wife denied all these accusations and allegations.

Even though her husband lodged a police report, she said, he is still receiving threats, harassment and insults that have resulted in severe damage to our family life.

Zafar’ wife and son, who appeared today holding a placard reads:” Stop accusation, Protect my father”, handed the Memorandum to Malaysia Human Rights (SUHAKAM) Commissioner, Mr. Jerald Joseph to address their plights.-Malaysia World News
