KUALA LUMPUR: The Defence Services Asia (DSA) series is not just a showcase of the latest technologies and weaponry but it continues to bring various governments together, policymakers, military agencies and defence mechanisms from across the region.

Deputy Prime Minister, Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi said, the DSA series encourages greater alliance and trust between parties and is a crucial platform to promote foreign technology partnerships.

“The scale and types of threats the country is facing today are different from the past experiences. Therefore we must be able to respond differently.

“Conventional counter-terrorism strategies will never work against the sophisticated terrorist organisations of today,” he said in his speech at the Opening Ceremony and Reception of the 16th DSA and NATSEC Asia 2018, here on Sunday evening.

Among those present were Defence Minister, Datuk Seri Hishammuddin Tun Hussein, other international Defence Ministers, distinguished guests and exhibitors participating in the four-day event held at the Malaysia International Trade Exhibition Centre (MITEC) here.

Ahmad Zahid also added new technology plays a crucial role in confronting these challenges (terrorisms). When it is in the wrong hands, technology can be used as disastrous weapons.

“The same technology can be a powerful tool in making the world a better place. This is why we must equip ourselves with technological solutions and systems that are on par with terrorist cells in order to stay one step ahead of them,” he added.

He also mentioned, in conjunction with DSA’s 30th anniversary, he is happy to welcome the inaugural NATSEC Asia 2018, a timely and important international exhibition for national security that focuses on security sectors in the region including public safety.

“NATSEC Asia 2018 also marks a new chapter in the working relationship between the Ministry of Home Affairs and the Ministry of Defence in line with the government’s National Blue Ocean Strategy (NBOS). The police and the military forces are now working more closely together than ever before,” he said.

NATSEC Asia, he added, also highlights on Cyber Security & Defence that provides the perfect stage to give nations greater access to the latest technologies and innovations in the security industry.-Malaysia World News
