KUALA LUMPUR: As some UMNO members are asking Ahmad Zahid Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi to go on leave since he was charged in court with 45 offenses related to breach of trust, bribery and corruption, Wanita UMNO wants him to continue as the party president.
Its chairman Datuk Dr Noraini Ahmad urged all UMNO members to give firm support to Ahmad Zahid Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi to stay as the president and focus on restoring and empowering the party.
“Wanita UMNO will continue to support the current leadership and express our solidarity with the party at times when its leaders continue to be tested.
“We focus on the efforts to restore and re-empower UMNO,” she told FMT yesterday.
She also urged UMNO members to be rational and be fair to serve the president, on the grounds that the leader had not been proven guilty in the court of law, the news portal said.
