PUTRAJAYA JULY 6: Based on the result of respiratory virus surveillance in the country, it is found that 69 per cent is from Influenza A (H3) while 29 per cent is SARS-CoV-2 virus that causes COVID-19 infection.
Director General of Health, Tan Sri Dr. Noor Hisham Abdullah said, the result of the respiratory virus surveillance was recorded in the 26th week epidemiology that ended on 2nd July 2022.
Dr. Noor Hisham added, most of the Influenza-Like Illness (ILI) and COVID-19 symptoms are the same and the descriptions are as below.
“ILI-Very bad common cold with fever occurring suddenly with the body temperature above 38 degree Celsius and COVID-19 could cause the lost of taste and smell.
“The above symptoms require a clinical medical officer’s evaluation. Senior citizens and individuals with comobodities, pregnant mothers and children are of higher risk to be infected with COVID-19. However pregnant mothers and children are groups that have high risk to get bad infections if detected with influenza,” Dr. Noor Hisham said in his Facebook post today.
Dr. Noor Hisham added, the infectivity of this illness is similar that is via breathing drops when coughing or sneezing and hand touch with things that have been contaminated with the liquid from the nose and throat.
Dr.Noor Hisham said the best way to avoid these illnesses is to put on a face mask, wash the hands and take care of the cleanliness of the body and environment. –Malaysia World News
