TANJONG MALIM: Universiti Pendidikan Sultan Idris (UPSI) has achieved a remarkable milestone by being ranked 98th in the global UI GreenMetric 2025 rankings, marking its first entry into the top 100 universities worldwide.
Vice-Chancellor Prof. Datuk Dr. Md Amin Md Taff highlighted this recognition as a testament to the university’s commitment to sustainability and academic excellence, reflecting the efforts of the entire university community.
“The 98th spot in the world is not merely a number, but a symbol of the university’s steadfast mission to develop a green, inclusive, and sustainable campus,” said Md Amin, adding, “It is the result of hard work by all faculties, administrators, students, and strategic partners who have consistently supported this effort.”
The ranking underscores UPSI’s mission to foster a green campus and actively tackle climate change through collaborations with industry and government.
UPSI’s improvement stems from advancements in six evaluation indicators, focusing on namely Campus Infrastructure, Energy and Climate Change, Waste Management, Water Management, Campus Transportation, and Sustainability Education and Research.
Md Amin emphasized the university’s commitment to collaboration with industry, government agencies, and the community to enhance its sustainability programs.
“This holistic approach involving multiple stakeholders is crucial because sustainability is not the responsibility of the university alone. We are committed to ensuring that our research, innovation and education truly benefit society and the nation,” He noted.
Through the implementation of the UPSI Strategic Plan 2021–2025, the university successfully recorded a significant increase in its overall score compared with the previous year, fulfilling its mission to position UPSI as a model of best sustainability practices among higher education institutions in the country.
“In line with this achievement of breaking into the top 100 most sustainable universities in the world, UPSI remains committed to advancing its low-carbon development agenda by expanding the use of renewable energy, strengthening environmental data collection, integrating smart campus technologies, and enhancing high-impact education and research programmes,” said Md Amin.
