UMNO-PAS form the National Consensus Charter to solve the current problems in the country

KUALA LUMPUR: The two largest Malay political parties, UMNO and PAS yesterday (Sept.14) had declared the formation of the National Consensus Charter that carries the agenda to unite the ummah (Muslims) in the multi-racial and diverse society of Malaysia.

The Charter was signed by the UMNO President, Datuk Seri Dr.Ahmad Zahid Hamidi and PAS President, Datuk Seri Abdul Hadi Awang (pic).

The content of Charter was read by the UMNO Secretary General, Tan Sri Annuar Musa and Secretary General of PAS, Datuk Takiyuddin Hasan before the important document was signed by the two party leaders.

The contents of the National Consensus Charter (NCC) are as follows:

-To uphold and defend the Federal Constitution that guarantees the formation of the nation, Islam as the Federal religion, sovereignty of the Malay Rulers, special privileges of the Malays and Bumiputera and other races, Bahasa Melayu as the national language and to guarantee the interests of the multi-racial society is protected.

-To strengthen the National Consensus through meetings that includes various religious backgrounds, race and culture for the interests of the country.

-To empower the Islam agenda, Malays and Bumiputera thoroughly within the framework of the Federal Constitution for the progress and prosperity of the people.

– To form cooperation and spread the narratives (Islam and Malays) without denying the existence of multi-religion, race and culture as the axis to the political stability, racial harmony and the prosperity of the country.

-To initiate collectively an image and new offer to the country in uplifting the good governance, inclusive development and prosperity policies and the distribution that enlightens social justice regardless of the skin colour and religion.

Meanwhile, Dr. Ahmad Zahid in his speech at the signing ceremony of the NCC at Putra World Trade Centre (PWTC) said, history had proven that when Barisan Nasional was in power it had upheld the Federal Constitution and the social contract that had been formed by the founding members for the Independence of Malaysia.

“The big agenda of the NCC should be seen as the solution to the current problems. In the effort to establish peacefulness, harmony and to help the people, the unity of the “ummah” and the country should become the priorities,” Dr. Ahmad Zahid said.

Also present at the event were UMNO Deputy President, Datuk Seri Mohamad Hasan, Deputy President of PAS, Tuan Ibrahim Tuan Man,and leaders of several political parties and non-governmental organizations (NGO). _ Malaysia World News
