KEDAH: Two foreign students from Albukhary International University (AIU), Kedah, have been awarded full scholarships to further their studies in China at Huazhong University of Science and Technology, one of the top public universities in Wuhan, China (Mainland).

Zaidan Mufaddhal, 23, from Indonesia, and Kyi Lin Khant, 20, from Myanmar, have been selected among thousands of local and international students to pursue master`s degrees of their choice at Huazhong University, China, under Chinese government scholarships in collaboration with the School of Computing and Informatics, AIU.

Speaking at the award ceremony, AIU Vice Chancellor Emeritus Professor Dato’ Dr. Abd Aziz Bin Tajuddin said, “This scholarship offered to our AIU students is an honour for us. AIU is very grateful that our degree is being recognised worldwide by top-ranking universities, not only now, but some of our other students have also gotten scholarships to study in Austria, Romania, and also Saudi Arabia.”

Dr. Abd Aziz added that AIU now has so many applicants from over 60 countries that most of them want to study for a bachelor’s degree in computer science at AIU.

“To offer them scholarships to come here to study at AIU in Malaysia, they have to be so competitive and fulfil all the academic and scholarship criteria.

“We are now rejecting more applications than accepting them due to competitiveness,” said Dr. Abd Aziz in his speech at the scholarship award ceremony that was held at AIU Auditorium this morning (August 11).

The recipient of the China government scholarships, Zaidan, will pursue a master`s degree in Artificial Intelligence, while Kyi Lin will pursue a master’s in Computer Science and Technology.

According to Associate Professor Dr. Basheer Riskhan, the Dean of the School of Computing and Informatics at AIU, “This is a very good opportunity and honour for our school. We are glad to bring up the AIU School of Computing and Informatics to this level.”

“Receiving a Chinese government scholarship is a wonderful opportunity for me and one of the best chances I’ve ever had.” I would like to thank our Dean of the School of Computing and Informatics, Dr. Basheer, who helped us get this opportunity. I m really grateful.

“I m excited to start my Master’s in September, and I have chosen to further my studies in AI as I have a lot of passion for this programme; it’s so interesting for me,” Zaidan told Malaysia World News (MWN).

As for Kyi Lin from Myanmar, he wants to further his studies in China to learn more about cyber security and advanced technologies.

“I believe there are a lot of job opportunities if we can study a master`s programme in these particular fields and obtain more skills.

“And I hope this scholarship will be helpful for me in my journey to further my studies in these fields,” he said.

Kyi Lin came to Malaysia in 2020 when he was offered a scholarship by AIU to study a foundation programme here. He was only 16 years old at that time.

Upon completing his foundation programme, he enrolled in a bachelor’s degree programme and furthered his studies at AIU. Due to his good behaviour and handwork, he has been honoured today with the best student award at AIU, as he was selected and recommended by the university to get the Chinese government scholarship to pursue his master`s study in China.

AIU, which is located in Alor Setar, Kedah, is committed to ensuring human dignity in line with the concept of “Inspiring Minds” as the core ethos and tagline of the University.

It provides a conducive living and learning environment for self-discovery, nurturing relationships, and building an understanding of global issues.

At AIU, students are exposed to a holistic educational approach through a combined academic and social engagement programme that is carried out throughout the study period.
