PETALING JAYA: Prime Minister Tun Dr. Mahathir Mohamad raised the issue of the loyalty of civil servants to the new Pakatan Harapan’s (PH) administration as some of them had been deeply involved in campaigning for Barisan Nasional (BN) in the general election.
Dr. Mahathir said, evidences have shown that some civil servants wore blue shirts as BN supporters and they did that as volunteers or otherwise in the campaigns.
He added, civil servants have the rights to choose whatever party they like but to be involved deeply in political campaigns is not correct.
“Civil servants should be neutral and follow PH style of administration. We have to follow according to the party manifesto. We have to ascertain that civil servants give full cooperation so that everything runs smoothly.
“We do not want to punish people unnecessarily but civil servants should change their attitudes and accept the fact that PH is the current government,” Dr. Mahathir said after chairing the PH Presidents’ Council meeting at Menara Yayasan Selangor here today.
On the Prime Minister of India, Narendra Modi’s meeting with Dr. Mahathir yesterday (Thursday), he said both the Prime Ministers have discussed working together in many fields including technology.
Dr. Mahathir added, in the discussion, they also agreed to have a reciprocate investment in both countries. He also emphasized that PH government is interested to know in detail about the new teaching approach in schools that India is implementing.
Mahathir said, in India, no cash is used in business dealings but they deal directly with the bank and there is no in between parties. Suppliers deliver their products using online services.
The Prime Minister told the media that his meeting with Prime Minister of Japan, Shinzo Abe in Tokyo on June 11-12 is to establish a good relationship between the two countries.
Answering to a question about “inconsistencies,” Dr. Mahathir said: “We are only three weeks in the government. If we want consistencies then we should be business friendly. We must treat the locals and foreigners the same way.
“The PH Government will do its business according to the rule of law and any mistakes done by the old government will be corrected.”
Dr. Mahathir also stressed that the 17,000 political appointees that are party members (Barisan Nasional) will end their services soon and they will receive whatever due to them before Hari Raya Aidilfitri. – Malaysia World News
