KUALA LUMPUR: The decision of the Court of Appeal to uphold the conviction of former Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak should be a role model to curb the crime of stealing public funds by the elites or those in power.

Parti Amanah Negara (Amanah) president Mohamad Sabu said his party was satisfied with the court’s decision which had once again proved Najib to be a guilty individual.

“What happened to the former Prime Minister is just a piece. The Malaysian Anti -Corruption Commission (MACC) needs to be more active while the Royal Malaysian Police (PDRM) needs to be bold in taking action as revealed by former Inspector – General of Police Datuk Seri Abdul Hamid Bador on corruption and malpractice among politicians, civil servants and including the ‘lazy’ group.

“The rule of law needs to be enhanced to give confidence to the people and the world community that Malaysia is a credible country and governed by the law” he said In Parliament today.

Yesterday, the Court of Appeal upheld Najib’ s guilty conviction and sentence of 12 years imprisonment and a fine of RM210 million in the SRC International fund case of RM42 million against Najib.

Speaking to Utusan Malaysia, Mohamad also stressed the importance of government-linked bodies to be more assertive.

“We also need to consider Abdul Hamid’s revelation before he retires. He is a former police chief so of course what he said is well -founded and deserves to be investigated.

“We are really focusing on Najib but even so, there are other individuals who also do such things and continue to feel free. This is the MACC’s jurisdiction to investigate because we have no evidence, ”he said.
