KUALA LUMPUR – The opposition party, Pakatan Harapan is planning a massive rally in September under the theme `love Malaysia, Eliminate kleptocracy`, following US State Department of Justice`s latest lawsuit to seize more assets allegedly linked to 1Malaysia Development Berhad (1MDB).

Datuk Seri Dr. Wan Azizah Wan Ismail, the opposition leader, said the demonstration will start on July 6 with a national roadshow explaining to people about DOJ suit and conclude with a rally in September.

“There are people who think that the DOJ suit is not relevant to them. So we will have to explain the suit to the people,” she said during a press conference yesterday at her office in Parliament.

The rally will pressure Putrajaya to call for a special parliamentary sitting to explain the suit and clarify the matter.

“The Prime Minister and the federal government can no longer remain silent,” she said.

The focus must be placed on clearing the name of the country and resolving the turmoil sparked by 1MDB scandal, she added.

Meanwhile, Communications and Multimedia Minister Salleh Said Keruak has called on Pakatan Harapan to focus on repairing their own problems first.

Instead of constantly complaining about the present government, Harapan should explain to the people why it considers itself a credible alternative government, Salleh said.

“With all the confusion, contradictions and disagreements, Harapan is far from being a government in waiting. So perhaps this rally is another attempt to divert attention,” he told Malaysiakini.

Dr. Wan Azizah hopes that all opposition parties will take part in the roadshows and rally.

Islamist party PAS was also invited to participate, but there has been no response from them yet, said the PKR president.
