KUALA LUMPUR: Malaysian citizens regardless of race and religion should understand deeply the status of Islam as a Federal Religion and it is not exclusive for certain group of people but a universal way of life that blesses the whole earth.
His Majesty, Yang di-Pertuan Agong, Al-Sultan Abdullah Ri’ayatuddin Al-Mustafa Billah Shah Ibni Sultan Ahmad Shah Al-Musta’in Billah said, the government’s effort to promote the values and Islamic culture through “Rahmatan Lil Alamin and Maqasid Al-Syariah”” approach is very much appreciated and supported.
“The religious approach and teachings that have been translated into good behaviour and personality of the people enables Malaysia to become the global model for a “Multi- Racial Islamic Country.”
“In the effort to strengthen the Islamic teachings, other religion should be respected for the harmony and prosperity of the people,” His Majesty said in his opening speech for the 14th and second Parliamentary session here today.
Relating to the media influence and the use of social media, His Majesty said, his government welcomes the openness and the freedom of expression but the freedom should be within the law and the social norms.
His Majesty added, simultaneously the enforcement agents should take stern actions on those who have breached the laws in the social media.
“The irresponsible use of the media especially the media social could threaten the good values that are religious based and the moral principles of the society,” His Majesty reiterated.
His Majesty also stressed that the effort to strengthen the unity among the multi-racial society should not remain as a slogan but instead it should be nurtured with sincerity and appreciation.
His Majesty, who is also the Sultan of Pahang also stressed that all parties should uphold the supremacy of the Federal Constitution, Parliamentary Democracy, Parliamentary Monarchy, Islam as the Federal religion, and other religion could be practiced peacefully and Bahasa Melayu as the national language.
“This year the Malaysian Parliament will celebrate its 60th anniversary and it is the same as my age… I hope all parties will continue to uphold the principles of Parliamentary Democracy and all politicians will defend the supremacy of the Federal Constitution without compromise.
“Instil the interests of the people in your heart (Members of Parliament) and debate with discipline and wisdom in this noble Dewan Rakyat (Parliament),” said His Majesty.
The Yang di-Pertuan Agong also recognised the Pakatan Harapan (PH) government’s effort in introducing the National Anti Corruption Plan and make laws that strengthens the good governance to help improve the Corruption Perception Index.
His Majesty also said, in the national development process, it is important to uphold integrity and the good values as corruption will burden the people and breaks the basic structure of a nation. –Malaysia World News
