Sultan Selangor proclaims Klang as Royal City

KLANG: The Sultan of Selangor, Sultan Sharafuddin Idris Shah, today proclaimed the Klang Municipal Council as the Royal Klang City Council, effective from Nov. 23, 2023.

Sultan Sharafuddin also consented to appoint Datin Noraini Roslan as the first mayor of the Royal Klang City Council, in accordance with Section 10 (1) of the Local Government Act 1976.

She is also the first lady to be appointed as the City Mayor in Selangor state.

“I, Sultan Sharafuddin Idris Shah Alhaj Ibni Almarhum Sultan Salahuddin Abdul Aziz Shah Alhaj, hereby declare and decree that the Klang Municipal Council, starting Nov 23, 2023, as the Royal City and shall be referred to as the Royal Klang City Council.

“Thus, the title of the president of the Klang Municipal Council, should be referred to as the mayor of the Royal Klang City Council, while the members of the Klang Municipal Council, should be referred to as the members of the Royal Klang City Council,” said His Royal Highness Sultan Sharafuddin as reported by Bernama at the proclamation ceremony held here today (Monday).

Local Government Development Minister Nga Kor Ming had in July 2023 said Klang would become the 20th city in the country.

In his speech His Royal Highness, Sultan Sharafuddin Idris Shah expressed his gratitude and thanked the 16th Yang di-Pertuan Agong, Al-Sultan Abdullah Ri’ayatuddin Al-Mustafa Billah Shah and the Federal Government for agreeing to upgrade Klang Municipal Council to become the Royal Klang City Council.

“I am happy after going through several stages, challenges and processes, Klang Royal Town finally is upgraded to the status of a City,” Sultan Sharafuddin said as reported by Sinar Harian.

Sultan Sharafuddin said, after Shah Alam, Petaling Jaya and Subang Jaya, Klang is the fourth district in Selangor that has been upgraded to become a City.

“The Klang City is very close to my heart not because my palace Istana Alam Shah is located there but Klang restores the history of several Selangor Sultanates and also the history of the establishment of Selangor state.

“I want to see Klang becoming a City that makes the people proud of Selangor and develops to a higher excellent level and renowned with its clean city image besides possessing the historical heritage attractions.

“Hence amongst the areas that need special attention include the level of cleanliness in housing areas, rivers and river banks and good infrastructures.

“Focus should also be given to the restructuring of the housing sectors, business areas and efforts to solve and control the problem of the crow population,” Sultan Sharafuddin said.

Meanwhile His Royal Highness has also urged the people to use all the modern technology applications to help strengthen the community’s unity and not spreading slanderous and hatred statements that could cause the community to break up.

“Subsequently I want the Royal Klang City to be proud of the City status and consistently work with the authorities in taking care of the cleanliness of the Klang River banks, public properties following the regulations that have been fixed to protect the status of the Royal City in line with the slogan “Healthy Klang and Prosperity,” Sultan Sharafuddin said.

Sultan Sharafuddin also advised the members of the Royal Klang City Council , city mayor and staff of the Royal Klang City Council to consistently provide services with full dedication and integrity.

“Be far away from all kinds of corruption and abuse of power for self-interest or for specific people,” Sultan Sharafuddin said. – Malaysia World News
