KUALA LUMPUR: His Majesty Sultan Ibrahim, King of Malaysia, has issued a stern warning that any element threatening national unity must be “eradicated without compromise,” calling on the silent majority to speak out against the insolent.
In his Aidilfitri message today, His Majesty expressed disappointment that previous reminders on social harmony appeared to have been forgotten.
“I wish to reiterate the advice given in last year’s Hari Raya message, which many seem to have forgotten or ignored — that any element threatening the unity of the people must be eradicated without compromise,” the King said.
Sultan Ibrahim underscored that Malaysia has no place for insolent behaviour, regardless of whether it stems from inter-ethnic friction or internal communal disputes.
“I believe the vast majority of Malaysians know how to conduct themselves with good etiquette in daily life.
“This majority voice must overcome and silence the voices of the uncivilised,” His Majesty added.
The King noted that not only past controversies – the sale of socks bearing the word “Allah,” the flying of the Jalur Gemilang upside down, and the desecration of the Quran — remained fresh in the memory, but also the “reckless mouths and fingers” used to incite hatred and division.
“Where have we failed in educating the people on these basic matters of etiquette, to the point that there are those whose perspectives and behaviours are so toxic and insolent that they ignite tension within society?” His Majesty asked.
Sultan Ibrahim reminded citizens to uphold the fifth principle of the Rukun Negara: Courtesy and Morality.
He said that maintaining harmony is not just a matter of legal enforcement or high-level discussions, but a daily practice that must be nurtured. His Majesty also urged the authorities to be beyond reproach when handling sensitive issues.
“The management of sensitive issues by the authorities must be prudent, taking into account all relevant aspects. There is no room for error.
“Demonstrate that the actions taken are rightful, firm, and precise, so as not to erode trust in the national administration,” he said, adding that he expects all parties to take his advice seriously.
The King also urged Muslims to pray to Allah for the fate of other Muslims globally, especially those who are oppressed and trapped in violence, to be protected and granted victory and global peace.
Concluding his message, His Majesty, alongside Her Majesty Raja Permaisuri Agong Raja Zarith Sofiah, prayed for the nation’s continued protection from disaster and for the preservation of its prosperity.
The King also reminded those travelling for the holidays to stay safe.
“Be careful on the road and eat prudently, Selamat Hari Raya Aidilfitri, Maaf Zahir dan Batin.”
