Sultan Hassanal Bolkiah of Brunei and PM Anwar meet to explore new potentials benefitting both countries – MOFA

PUTRAJAYA NOV.28: His Majesty Sultan Hassanal Bolkiah Mu’izzaddin Waddaulah, Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Negara Brunei Darussalam had consented a special visit to Prime Minister of Malaysia, Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim at Putrajaya today.

Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MOFA) said, this is the inaugural meeting between Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim and His Majesty Sultan Hassanal Bolkiah upon assuming office on 24 November 2022.

The statement added, the last visit by His Majesty the Sultan to Kuala Lumpur was from 4 to 6 March 2019 to attend the 22nd Annual Leader’s Consultation (ALC) between Malaysia and Negara Brunei Darussalam.

“Malaysia and Negara Brunei Darussalam have a special relationship which is based on a common heritage, culture and close people-to-people relations.

“Building on this special relationship, both leaders will take the opportunity of this visit to take stock of the progress of existing cooperation as well as explore new potentials for a more comprehensive partnership that can mutually benefit the two countries,” MOFA said in its statement today.

The Prime Minister then hosted a luncheon in honour of His Majesty Sultan Hassanal Bolkiah Mu’izzaddin Waddaulah and  His Royal Highness Prince Abdul Mateen ibni Sultan Hassanal Bolkiah Mu’izzaddin Waddaulah and the Bruneian delegation.

According to MOFA, in 2021, Negara Brunei Darussalam was Malaysia’s 30th largest trading partner and the 6th largest within ASEAN with total trade amounting to RM 8.03 billion (USD1.94 billion).

Earlier Sultan Hassanal Bolkiah had consented to drive a BMW car with Anwar Ibrahim from the Subang Royal Malaysian Air Force (RMAF) Base to Seri Perdana, Putrajaya in conjunction with his special visit to Malaysia today.  

Accompanying His Majesty Sultan Hassanal Bolkiah was his son Pengiran Muda ‘Abdul Mateen Bolkiah.

Before the two leaders started their journey at 11.45am, Anwar who was seated beside Sultan Hassanal Bolkiah had waved at the media practitioners.

The two leaders had been escorted by the motorbike and car safety team from RMAF, Subang to Putrajaya at a distance of 41 kilometres.

The arrival of His Majesty had been received with a salute and a Malaysian Army parade headed by Major Mohd Faudzi Che Hashim. Also present was the Secretary General to the Government Tan Sri Mohd. Zuki Ali. –Malaysia World News
