Shah Alam- The police had arrested the founder of Sugarbook, the biggest Sugar Daddy-Sugar Baby dating site in Asia.
The 34-year-old Darren Chan was detained yesterday around 4:30pm at his plush condominium.
The Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) had blocked access to Sugarbook.com earlier on Monday for allegedly breaching the law on the use of social media and violated Section 233 of the Communications and Multimedia Act 1998 (CMA).
However, Sugarbook company has created an alternative domain and instructed users how to access the applicatiom inspite of MCMC’s ban.
Selangor CID chief Senior Asst Comm Datuk Fadzil Ahmat confirmed “the man who is from Gelugor, Penang, was arrested in the compound of a condominium in Mont Kiara at around 4.30pm on Wednesday.
“He will be brought to the Shah Alam Court today (Feb 18) for remand,” he said in a statement on Thursday.
He added that the police are investigating the case for publishing or circulating any statement, rumour or report with intent to cause fear or alarm to the public, sharing offensive or menacing content, and prostitution,” he said.
