PUTRAJAYA — Both Deputy Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department (Religious Affairs), Datuk Ahmad Marzuk Shaary and Deputy Minister of Women, Family and Community Development Datuk Siti Zailah Mohd Yusoff have called today the government to take stern action against the operators of the  sugar daddy and sugar baby dating application, Sugarbook, as well as all those involved in this scandal.

It has been reported that the dating Sugarbook app has been allegedly used by several public and private university students who look for sugar daddies to earn easy money and solve their financial problems, especially during this trying Covid-19 pandemic.

“This is something that is very sad for us. The application should be prevented from being used in our country as it encourages people to do things that are not right and violate the laws including shariah law,” Ahmad Marzuk told reporters in an event today.

In another development, Siti Zailah said in a post on her Facebook page that maintaining the dignity of Women is as mandatory as required by Religion.

“Insya Allah, the Ministry of Women, Family and Community Development will work closely with all ministries and related agencies to address the “Sugar Baby” issue which is very worrying, ” she added.

The deputy minister insisted that “God willing, the Government through various Ministries will take STRONG action against those involved.

She said the Sugarbook company may be investigated under Section 372 (1) (e) of the Penal Code which reads:
“Any person by any means of advertising or other notice published in any way or exhibited in any place for prostitution services or for services where a reasonable person will understand it as prostitution services, offer any person for the purpose of prostitution or seek information for that purpose or receive such advertisements or notices for publications or exhibitions; shall be liable to imprisonment for a term not exceeding fifteen years and to whipping, and shall also be liable to a fine. ”

The Sugarbook is also said to be the biggest sugar daddy-sugar baby dating service in Asia with thousands of young Malaysian students registered in it.
