KUWLA LUMPUR JULY 31: The Special Dewan Rakyat sitting on Monday 2nd August 2021 has been postponed to another date to be notified later due to the meeting premises has been detected as a high risk locality for COVID-19 infections.
Secretary of Dewan Rakyat, Nizam Mydin Bacha Mydin said, the Dewan Rakyat Speaker’s Office has been informed by the Prime Minister, Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin about the postponement of the Special Meeting of the Third Term 14th Parliamentary session scheduled on Monday.
Nizam said, the information about the postponement from the Prime Minister was made in line with the Meeting Procedure 11(3) of the Dewan Rakyat Meeting Procedures.
“The postponement is also in line with the Director General of Health, Tan Sri Dr. Noor Hisham Abdullah’s proposal and the current risk evaluation that has been carried out by the Ministry of Health (MOH) following the latest development in COVID-19 infections.
“MOH is with the opinion that the Parliament is a risky locality for COVID-19 infections.
“I have been instructed by the Deputy Speaker of Dewan Rakyat, Datuk Mohd. Rashid Hasnon to inform all honoured members of Dewan Rakyat that there will be no meeting on 2nd August 2021,” Nizam said.
Regarding the infections, it was reported that 11 COVID-19 cases were detected on Thursday (Jul 29) at the Special Sitting in Dewan Rakyat, the Lower House of Parliament.
According to Dr. Noor Hisham in a statement on Friday, ten of these cases were detected using antigen saliva test kits. The remaining case was detected through a polymerase chain reaction (PCR) test.
Dr. Noor Hisham said, MOH had been informed of two positive COVID-19 cases in Parliament on Thursday, with the first case involving a staff member who was present from 26 to 28th July 2021.-Malaysia World News
