PUTRAJAYA,MAC.17: The drafting of the Social Work Profession Bill is in its final stage, said the Women, Family and Community Development Minister Datuk Seri Rina Harun.

The Bill was drafted to recognise social work as a profession where those involved would be required to register and issued with certificate by the Social Work Profession Council.

“The formation of the Bill is important as it does not only safeguard the welfare of the people especially the women, children and senior citizens, handicapped, and the people in need, but it also prepares the people to face social challenges,” said Rina in a statement here today.

The Ministry issued the statement in conjunction with the Social Workers Appreciation Night that was held yesterday in commemoration of the 2021 World Social Work Day celebration.

The statement added, there are 3,814 officers in various grades serving as social workers in the Social Welfare Department (JKM) as of December 2020.

“Social work is an activity carried out by professionally trained social workers to improve the well-being and social functioning of an individual, family, group, organisation or community,” said the statement
