KUALA LUMPUR – Siti Bainun Abd Razali was sentenced to 22 years in prison today by the Sessions Court for neglecting and abusing a 13-year-old down syndrome girl.
She was ordered to serve the sentences concurrently and sign a five-year good behaviour bond and 200 hours of community service.
The charge, framed under Section 31(1)(a) of the Child Act 2001, provides imprisonment for up to 20 years or a fine of RM50,000 or both, upon conviction.
The founder of Rumah Bonda Siti was sentenced to 22 years in prison for two offences, 10 years in prison for the offence of neglecting the girl, and 12 years in prison for the second charge of abusing her. However, the court ordered her to serve the sentences concurrently from today, which means she will be serving only 12 years in jail, according to Bernama.
Siti Bainun was alleged to have caused the victim to suffer physical and emotional injuries due to negligence and abuse between February and June 2021.
