PUTRAJAYA JULY 2: The dominant Malay political party UMNO is confident that the Barisan Nasional (BN) candidate, Mohd. Sharim Md. Zain, 41, will win the Chini state seat by-election on July 4.

UMNO Treasurer, Datuk Seri Tengku Adnan Tengku Mansor said, the local people in Chini should continue supporting Mohd. Sharim since Chini was represented by Datuk Seri Abu Bakar Harun from the BN in the last election.

“I am sure the people will choose the BN candidate because they know they will get whatever is left by Abu Bakar will be continued by Mohd. Sharim who is responsible to carry out the party’s mission to help the people in the constituency,” Tengku Adnan told MWN in Putrajaya yesterday evening.

The former Federal Territories Minister, Tengku Adnan was a special guest at the get-together party hosted by Deputy Minister of Finance II, Mohd. Shahar Abdullah (pic right) for the constituents of Chini residing in the Klang Valley.

As a Member of Parliament for Putrajaya, Tengku Adnan said, the people in Chini should choose Sharim as he represents BN that is a party in the Perikatan Nasional coalition with Tan Sri Mahyuddin Yassin as the Prime Minister.

“The Perikatan Nasional coalition is the government today and it has proven its effectiveness especially in handling the COVID-19 pandemic where only one new case has been recorded today (July 1) and that was imported from Turkey.

“The BN is in the government now after Perikatan Nasional has enough number of MPs to form the government of Malaysia.

“The other side (opposition) does not have the numbers. If they have enough numbers they would have nominated someone to be the Prime Minister. They could not do it but just talk about it,” Tengku Adnan reiterated.

The Chini state seat by-election is held following the death of Datuk Abu Bakar Harun, 60, on May 6 due to heart attack.

Abu Bakar was first elected as the Chini State Assemblyman in the 11th general election in 2004. In the 14th general election, Abu Bakar retained the seat with 4,622 vote majority when he had 10,027 votes against Mohd. Fadhil of Pas who garnered 5.405 votes while Mohamad Razali Ithnain from PKR obtained 1,065 votes.

The Chini state by-election is a three-cornered fight among Mohd. Sharim and two independent candidates namely Tengku Datuk Zainul Hisham Tengku Hussin and Mohd. Shukri Mohd. Ramli._ Malaysia World News
