KUALA LUMPUR: The Pakatan Harapan (PH) government has identified several lands belonging to the Ministry of Defence (Mindef) at 16 locations in eight states throughout the country have been occupied illegally by irresponsible parties.
The illegal intrusions were for agricultural activities, building of structures and squatter houses, religious centres and illegal logging.
The ministry in its statement said, the 16 locations are situated in Perlis, Kedah, Pulau Pinang, Perak, Federal Territory of Kuala Lumpur; Negeri Sembilan; Sabah and Sarawak.
“Mindef has 1,165,9333.73 acres of land and is now occupied by the Malaysian Armed Forces for military camp bases, shooting range bases and residential areas for armed forces,” said Mindef in a statement here yesterday (June 11).
The statement added, the ministry’s land is classified into four categories namely Federal Owned Land, Reserved Land Section 62 National Land Code, Reserved Land Clause 166 Federal Constitution and land under Manoeuvres Act 1983.
However in order to avoid such illegal activities from spreading, several actions and suggestions have been made by Mindef and these include fencing the overall land with notice boards “Armed Forces Areas”or “Forbidden Areas”.
“The suggestion also covers rental agreement or land lease depending on the military development plan, apply for court order for illegal occupants to leave the land and to order the local authorities to launch land enforcement operations.
“To hand over land again to the Department of Director General of Lands and Mines (JKPTG) is also one of the suggestions made by Mindef,” said the statement.
Mindef advices the public not to occupy any land that belongs to the Ministry . However for the rentals of land belonging to the Federal Government and used by the Ministry, interested members of the public can forward their applications to JKPTG. –Malaysia World News
