PUTRAJAYA OCT.18: Sabah consistently leading the surge in new COVID-19 cases with 702 out of 871 cases recorded today with a new cluster of 49 detected from Kepayan Prison, 81 from the existing clusters while 572 were detected in other COVID-19 screening tests.
Director General of Health, Tan Sri Dr. Noor Hisham Abdullah said, the new cases contribute to the cumulative total to 20,498 and seven deaths out of which two are non citizens and five citizens all from Sabah bringing the death toll to 187 or 0.9% from the cumulative total.
Dr. Noor Hisham said, 702 cases recorded in Sabah has contributed to 80.6% from the total number of new cases while 251,030 people have undergone active public health checks and the positivity rate in Sabah is 2.96%.
Meanwhile he said four new clusters have been recorded today and it involved Labuan and Negeri Sembilan while South and Central of Seberang Prai (Alma), Petaling, Kuala Langat, Klang and Negeri Sembilan (Auto) and Kepayang Prison in Kota Kinabalu, Sabah.
Dr. Noor Hisham said, the social and sports activities will not be permitted in areas under Conditional Movement Control Order (CMCO) and the Ministry of Health will use the target approach if there is any COVID-19 cases detected.
“However in areas that are not affected by CMCO, the social and sports activities will continue as usual under Recovery MCO with the standard operating procedures as set by the government.
“This matter will be discussed further at the National Security Council meeting,” he said. –Malaysia World News
