“Rukun Negara” to be introduced in the education syllabus to enhance unity -Minister

KUALA LUMPUR JULY 22: The Ministry of National Unity will take an approach that will enhance understanding, harmony, and unity if there is any provocation case leading to disharmony among the people.

Minister of National Unity, Datuk Halimah Mohamed Sadique said, such an approach will help avoid further misunderstanding and dispute to persist in the community.

“The ministry will try not to go through legal procedures to address provocative issues. However, the alternative way is that it could be investigated under Section 298A Penal Code, Act 574, and Section 233 Communication and Multimedia Act 1988,” said Halimah in answering the additional question posed by the Member of Parliament (MP) for Jelebu, Datuk Jalaluddin Alias.

Jalaluddin also posed the question of why only Kuching was declared as the City of Unity on August 1, 2015, and not other cities, at the question to the minister in the second meeting, the third term of the 14th Parliamentary session held here today.

Halimah said, there are 148 local authorities nationwide and the ministry will cooperate with the Ministry of Housing and Local Government (MHLG) to develop more City of Unity in the country.

The Minister added, to enhance the unity among the young people, the ministry will discuss the introduction of Rukun Negara as a subject in the education syllabus with the Ministry of Education.

She added, the ministry will also discuss on the activities relating to Rukun Negara with the Ministry of Higher Education.

Prior to that Halimah said the ministry has formed the National Unity and Advisory Council (NUAC) consisting of 23 committee members including the academicians, non-governmental organizations (NGOs), individuals, and experts in the field of unity. They will discuss issues pertaining to unity and policies leading to national integration among the multi-racial communities.

The NUAC will be chaired by the Senior Minister (Education and Human Resources Cluster), Dr. Mohd. Radzi Md. Jidin. The council will advise the government on matters of unity and national reconciliation efforts.

Halimah also said, the National Unity Action Plan (NUAP) will be launched this year but starting August 1 till August 31, it will be brought to the public for more inputs and feedbacks before it could be finalized by the excos.

The Minister of National Unity said that in answering the question from Batang Lupar, MP, Datuk Seri Rohani Abdul Karim who wanted to know the roles and the programmes of the Ministry in enhancing national unity in the country.-Malaysia World News
