PUTRAJAYA:  Malaysia emerged as the best among ASEAN countries for its press freedom as recorded by the World Media Freedom Index 2022 issued by Reporters Without Borders (RDF) following its move to the 113th position compared to 119th in 2021.

Prime Minister, Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim said, the Unity Government is committed to ensuring the freedom aspects and the openness of the media besides ensuring the check and balance continues to function well.

Anwar said that in his Facebook post today.

Meanwhile, Minister of Communications and Digital, Fahmi Fadzil said, this is the highest achievement that makes the nation proud.

“That position will be a catalyst for us to continue empowering media freedom in Malaysia.

“The Ministry together with the media practitioners are now studying the draft of the Media Council Bill before it is presented to the Cabinet Ministers.

“Insya Allah, there will be several announcements for the media practitioners before the National Journalists’ Day (HAWANA) celebration,” Fahmi said in a statement.

The HAWANA is scheduled to be held in Ipoh, Perak between May 27 and 29. – Malaysia World News
