KUALA LUMPUR: The Ministry of Defence (MINDEF) Chief Secretary and the Chief of Defence Forces have been instructed to monitor strictly to ensure the allocation of RM21, 856,968 for the Special Defence Team Operation Unit (BOPKP) has been implemented according to the plan and requirement of the Malaysian Armed Forces (MAF).
Senior Minister of Defence, Datuk Seri Hishammuddin Tun Hussein said, the two senior officers have been instructed to be responsible as the question of preparedness, readiness of BOPKP and the national security cannot be compromised.
Hishammuddin added, the allocation had been approved by the Economic Planning Unit (EPU) via the plan under the 12th Malaysia Plan especially for BOPKP.
“The allocation involves purchasing special equipment – RM10,059,632, communication equipment – RM7,050,000.00, special operation vehicle – RM2,800,000.00 and weaponries -RM1,947,336.00,” Hishammuddin said in a statement after visiting Perdana Sungai Besi Camp, Wednesday (5th Oct,) to focus on the preparedness of BOPKP (MAF) that is placed in the camp.
The BOPKP is a special team- the combination of the three services (land, air and water) that could be activated very fast to counter any aggression and any form of crisis that could threaten the safety of the country.
During the visit, Hishammuddin said he had also witnessed the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) signing ceremony between MINDEF and Yayasan Lembaga Tabung Angkatan Tentera (Yayasan LTAT) and Universiti Tun Abdul Razak (UNIRAZAK).
“With the MoU signed, Yayasan LTAT with the cooperation of UNIRAZAK will provide 250 places a year within five years for the MAF personnel and MINDEF civil staff’s children to follow the Basic Literature Studies Scholarship Programme for free. The allocation of RM15.625 million had been allocated for this programme,” Hishammuddin said.
According to Hishammuddin, MINDEF had also provided 500 places a year for five years to the MAF Veteran’s children to follow the same programme with the cooperation of UNIRAZAK and the MAF Veteran Affairs Department (JHEV) which started in May 2022.
“On behalf of MINDEF and MAF, I would like to record my appreciation to Yayasan LTAT for contributing “wakalah zakat” and Yayasan LTAT Education CSR Aid to 74 students of Sekolah Tahfiz and Asrama Anak Yatim ATM (STAY ATM) amounting to RM80,000.
“The amount includes “wakalah zakat” RM25,000, 10 computers for computer laboratory STAY ATM worth RM30,000, SPM Intensive Tuition 2022 involving subjects such as Bahasa Melayu, English, Mathematics, History and Science amounting to RM25,000,” Hishammuddin said.-Malaysia World News
