Kuala Lumpur: The Deputy Prime Minister’s Office has strongly refuted rumor and reports that Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi had said the police are seeking Interpol’s help to locate businessman Jho Low who is suspected of involvement in the alleged multi-billion dollar scandal at state fund 1Malaysia Development Berhad (1MDB).
Many social media and news portals yesterday reported that Zahid Hamidi had said in parliament that the police are seeking Interpol’s help to locate businessman Jho Low.
However, in a statement released by the DPM’s office later at night, Zahid said that social media” had manipulated” the statement he made in Parliament regarding the issue.
“The Deputy Prime Minister in his reply to Gombak MP’s supplementary question at the Parliament sitting today clearly stated that there was no case to be convicted, ” the statement said.
“Good relations between PDRM and Interpol were well established in the investigation of this case.
“As at today, PDRM has closed the case file and there were no other requests made by Interpol concerning the case.
“However, the social media reports implied that new efforts were being done to locate Jho Low. That is so untrue,” the statement added.
