
Kuala Lumpur: Former Vice-Chancellor of National Defence University of Malaysia (UPNM), General Tan Sri Prof. Zulkifli Zainal Abidin is now the new Chief of Malaysian Armed Forces effective June 20.
Zulkifli replaces General Tan Sri Raja Mohamed Affandi Raja Mohamed Noor who has served the Malaysian Army in various important posts for 42 years.
Zulkifli was the Chief of Malaysian Army on June 14, 2011 before he was appointed as the Vice-Chancellor of UPNM in 2013.
Zulkifli,59, assumed his duties from Raja Mohamed Affandi who went on for mandatory retirement. The handover ceremony was witnessed by Defence Minister Mohamad Sabu at the Auditorium, Ministry of Defence here on Wednesday.
The new Armed Forces Chief started his service in the Royal Malay Regiment on Januray 30, 1978.
Born in Port Weld, Perak, Zulkifli has served the New Zealand Army Infantry School as a senior lecturer for two years and was responsible to educate army officers from New Zealand besides other Commonwealth countries on weaponry, tactical studies and counter-insurgency warfare.
He has also lectured at the Army Management Training Centre from 1992-1993.
Zulkifli holds a Master’s Degree in Management from the Asian Institute of Management and has also attended a senior management development programme at the John F.Kennedy School of Government, Harvard University. –Malaysia World News.
