Police will call Anwar Ibrahim to assist in investigations into claims of sexual assault by Muhammed Yusoff Rawther.

Bukit Aman Criminal Investigation Department (CID) director Huzir Mohamed confirmed an investigation had been opened under Section 354 of the Penal Code, which covers assault or use of criminal force to a person with the intent to outrage modesty.

“The case is being investigated under Section 354 of the Penal Code and investigation papers will be submitted to the Attorney-General’s Chambers,” Huzir said, adding that Anwar and other witnesses will be called once the date is set.

The police have already called and questioned Yusoff for many hours.

The former research officer for Anwar claims that the incident took place in Anwar`s residence in October last year.

The Port Dickson MP denied the allegation, saying it was only an attempt to tarnish his image as the prime minister-in-waiting.

“I strongly deny the baseless slander…I was busy campaigning for the Port Dickson by-election as well as attending a separate ceremony to commemorate Mahatma Gandhi in Kuala Lumpur, on the alleged date (Oct 2, 2018),” Anwar said

Last Saturday, Yusoff lodged a report with the Sentul district police headquarters, saying he is worried about his safety after making the claim social media and asking for justice.

“He wants justice and police are investigating the matter. Of course, if what he says is true and the incident did happen, then he expects the police to take appropriate action by recommending what needs to be recommended to the Attorney General.

“On the other hand, he is not a young boy and he understands that if he is coming out with a lie, then he will also be paying the price,” his lawyer Mohamed Haniff Khatri Abdulla said.

On Monday and yesterday, the police quizzed him for many hours at the Bukit Aman federal police headquarters in Kuala Lumpur.
