PETALING JAYA: Police has arrested a man over false claim that 14 members of his family including wife, eight children, mother, sister and brother-in-law had succumbed to Covid-19.

In a statement, Petroliam Nasional Berhad (Petronas) where he works, said the suspect was nabbed by police to facilitate investigations into false claim and the aid he received from the public, according to FMT.

“We do not condone such misconduct by any of our employees and contractors, who are bound by a strict code of conduct and business ethics while performing services for Petronas and its group of companies,” said the national oil company.

Last night, Kota Tinggi police chief Hussin Zamora said the false claim has since went viral on social media and the man was believed to have received RM91,000 in donations from so many symphatizers.

Besides donating to him, social media users had also organised a virtual Yasin prayer recital session for him, which was attended by hundreds, the news portal said.
