PETALING JAYA: 7 Aug: Prime Minister Tun Dr. Mahathir Mohamad today expressed unhappiness with some officers who are still loyal to the former Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib to the extent that they avoid implementing the decisions of the Pakatan Harapan Government.
Mahathir said, in order to have a smooth administration, some officers have to be changed or dropped.
“For example a newly appointed officer did not get his pay until the Cabinet Ministers took action on this issue. In fact the Minister concerned and I as the Prime Minister have already approved the appointment.
“Some officers are still strong supporters and under the influence of the former Barisan Nasional (BN) government. They refused to accept new appointments and something was wrong here,” Mahathir said at the press conference after PH senior leaders meeting here today.
Mahathir said he was not happy and dissatisfied because not all PH promises could be fulfilled 100 percent due to obstacles and certain government machineries have been destroyed badly.
As the seventh Prime Minister, Mahathir also mentioned about the perceptions of the people on PH Government after 100 days.
According to Mahathir, some of the 487,000 respondents from a survey conducted said that they were not happy as the government did not take quick and stern actions on officers and ministers that were involved in corruption during the BN government.
Mahathir said, PH government have to follow the law and needs documents and evidences before a case could be brought to the court.
“The respondents also expressed their dissatisfaction on PH Government as it only takes action on big cases but not on small corruption cases,” he said and added that BN leaders will not escape even committing on small cases.
However Mahathir also said that many responded positively on PH government’s performance within 100 days especially on its success to repeal laws that are perceived to be unfair to the people.
“The Goods and Services Tax (GST) that was replaced by the Sales and Services Tax (SST) and many other laws that have been repealed are seen as positive actions taken by PH Government,’’ he added.
On the minimum wage salary implementation, Mahathir said there are many versions to it as some wants it RM1,800 and some RM1,500.
“The minimum wages have to be implemented but the government now cannot afford to increase its expenditure as a result of so much payment has to be made on national debts. Remember at the same time we have to compete with other countries and cannot afford to lose the current placing,” he said.
Commenting on many netizens and public opinions on the appointment of Minister of Education Dr. Maszlee Malik as President of International Islamic University (IIUM) Mahathir said, PH government will review it as it is not a “carved in stone” policy. – Malaysia World News
