PETALING JAYA: Prime Minister Dr Mahathir said 1MDB case would need more time, as much information that have been handed to him (including the Ringgit figures) were false and a study should be made as to how far it does not reflect the truth.
He said this in a special Prime Minister’s media conference held at PH Headquarters here today.
Meanwhile, Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim was appointed today to be among the top six leaders in Pakatan Harapan (PH) Government with Prime Minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad as the Chairman.
Earlier the top five leaders include the Prime Minister, Deputy Prime Minister, Datuk Seri Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail, Minister of Home Affairs, Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin, Minister of Finance Lim Guan Eng and Minister of Defence Muhamad Sabu.
The PH Chairman also announced two new ministers namely Minister of Education held by the Prime Minister himself (temporary basis) while Deputy Prime Minister, Datuk Seri Dr. Wan Azizah Wan Ismail takes the responsibility as the Minister of Woman and Welfare.
“We have five ministers now, and the three have been announced earlier,” Dr. Mahathir said.
Tun Dr. Mahathir also announced that a task force team has made an agreement to look into problems faced by minority groups that include the Indian community and the aborigines.
He added, the selection of other ministers will be two from each party and it does not take into consideration the strength of a party.
He added, the cabinet ministers will be limited to 25 and if necessary the numbers will be increased later.
Tun Mahathir also said that 13 cabinet ministers will be sworn in before Yang di-Pertuan Agong Sultan Muhamad V at Istana Negara on Monday 21st May. However, the names of other cabinet ministers will be announced this week.
Asked why he takes the post of Minister of Education, Dr Mahathir said:”Many people are uneducated in the country so we have to give attention to this problem. The government should revise the way of teaching so that many people can use the computer software.”
About the implementation of zero GST and its effects to the government financial situation, the Prime Minister said, the public does not have to worry as more money will be collected from the price of petrol as it has increased to USDS70 per barrel compared to USD52 before.
“The price of petrol will not fluctuate every week as the changes will disrupt both buyers and sellers financial control,” he said.
Dr Mahathir also stressed that the 1Malaysia People’s Aid (BR1M) will be continued but at the same time, he is aware that some people are not qualified to receive it.
“It is not a payment that demands the people to support the government but more to help solve the social problem,” he said.
