PM Ismail’s visits to Cambodia and Thailand to strengthen relations, reopen borders

PUTRAJAYA FEB.23: Prime Minister Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob is on his inaugural official visits to Cambodia and Thailand starting today until 26th February 2022.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs said, the visits are undertaken at the invitations of the Prime Minister of the Kingdom of Cambodia, Samdech Techo Hun Sen, and the Prime Minister of the Kingdom of Thailand, General Prayut Chan-o-cha.

During the visit to Cambodia on 23 – 24 February, the Prime Minister is scheduled to have a royal audience with the King of Cambodia, His Majesty King Norodom Sihamoni.

The statement added, Prime Minister Ismail will also hold a meeting with his counterpart Samdech Techo Hun Sen and they will discuss initiatives to further strengthen the Malaysia-Cambodia’s long-standing relations, post-COVID-19 cooperation, ASEAN cooperation, as well as regional and international issues of mutual interest.

The Prime Minister is also scheduled to hold separate meetings with the President of the Senate and President of National Assembly of Cambodia. Meanwhile in a separate session, Prime Minister Ismail will also meet with “Keluarga Malaysia” in Cambodia.

Meanwhile, during Prime Minister’s visit to Thailand on 24 – 26 February, he will hold a meeting with Prime Minister General Prayut Chan-o-cha.

“The meeting will provide an opportunity for the two leaders to discuss the way forward in strengthening multifaceted cooperation between Malaysia and Thailand. Focus areas include economic cooperation, post-COVID-19 cooperation, reopening of borders, and key connectivity projects crossing the land borders,” said the Ministry in its statement here today.

The Prime Minister’s programmes will also include a session with the Malaysia-Thailand Chamber of Commerce (MTCC) and a session with “Keluarga Malaysia” in Bangkok.

The statement added, the high level visits by the Prime Minister to Cambodia and Thailand reflect the friendly and comprehensive ties Malaysia has with both neighbours, bilaterally and in the framework of ASEAN family.

Prime Minister will be accompanied by Minister of Foreign Affairs, Datuk Seri Saifuddin Abdullah, Senior Minister of International Trade and Industry, Datuk Seri Mohamed Azmin Ali, Deputy Minister of Federal Territories, Datuk Seri Jalaluddin Alias, Chairman of RISDA, Datuk Seri Mohd Salim Mohd Sharif, as well as senior government officials.

The official visits will be conducted with the strict COVID-19 preventative Standard Operating Procedures (SOP) in place in Malaysia, Cambodia and Thailand. –Malaysia World News
