PUTRAJAYA MAY 9: Prime Minister Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob will be on his working visit to Washington D.C, United States of America to attend the ASEAN-United States Special Summit (AUSS) on 12th -13th May 2022.
The Prime Minister will be accompanied by Foreign Affairs Minister, Datuk Seri Saifuddin Abdullah and Senior Minister of International Trade & Industry (MITI), Datuk Seri Mohamed Azmin Ali, as well as senior officials from the Prime Minister’s Office and the two Ministries.
“During the Special Summit, Prime Minister and other ASEAN Leaders are scheduled to participate in a series of meetings and discussions with the President and Vice President of the United States.
“Other programme prepared by the United States includes sessions with the Leadership of the United States Congress and some members of the United States Cabinet and American business leaders,” said the Foreign Ministry in a statement here today.
According to the statement, the Special Summit is held in conjunction with the 45th anniversary of the ASEAN-United States Dialogue Relations. It will serve as a strategic platform for ASEAN and the United States to review and explore pragmatic cooperation to strengthen the existing partnership.
“The Special Summit is expected to address issues such as regional and international issues of common concern, economic cooperation, COVID-19 and health security, climate change and clean energy, among others.
“The ASEAN-United States Special Summit is expected to issue a Joint Vision Statement which would underscore the commitment and aspiration to enhance ASEAN-United States partnership in the interest of enduring peace, stability, security and shared prosperity for all,” the statement said.
The statement added, while in Washington D.C, the Prime Minister is scheduled to attend the “Keluarga Malaysia Hari Raya” celebration and meet the Malaysian diaspora. –Malaysia World News
