KOTA KINABALU April 6: The launching of Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia (BERSATU) in Sabah is not to topple the state government but instead enables the Federal Government to help Sabah to be more stable and stronger.
Prime Minister, Tun Dr. Mahathir Mohamad who is also the Chairman of BERSATU said, with 120,000 registered members in Sabah , it can work closely and support Warisan as the state ruling party today.
“Although Warisan is not in Pakatan Harapan (PH) but it will be granted a special position and on that level the government can work together on issues with the Chief Minister,Datuk Seri Panglima Shafie Apdal.
“We receive the biggest reception at the launching event of BERSATU here compared elsewhere and this proves the people like to join BERSATU,” Dr. Mahathir said to the media here today.
Regarding the selection of BERSATU leadership in Sabah, he said the division chiefs will be selected according to the party constitution.
Meanwhile seven Sabah Assemblymen received the BERSATU membership card at the event that was attended by thousands of people.
Regarding the Rome Statute issue, Dr. Mahathir said there was an attempt to downgrade Pakatan Harapan when certain parties alleged that the government wants to betray Malaysia by signing the Rome Statute.

“We follow the rule of law where trials are conducted in the open court and there is no reason for any party to sign the Statute,” he said.
