TOKYO: Prime Minister, Tun Dr. Mahathir Mohamad urges the world to subscribe to the rule of international law and resolve all problems through negotiation and not confrontation and sending warships here and there.

Dr. Mahathir said, the world has to rethink countries relations with each other and as such conflicts must be resolved through negotiations, arbitration and the court of law.

“The first thing to do is the new world order should decide all conflicts must be settled at the table and countries have to be prepared to give up something to reach an agreement,” he said when addressing the 25th International Conference on the Future of Asia which is also known as Nikkei Conference .here today.

He added, everyone must be prepared to give up something to get a win – win situation.

“If we cannot decide ourselves, then let the court decide and respect the decision of the court,” he said.

Dr. Mahathir also mentioned: “The world is considered still primitive when we cannot solve our problems except by confrontation, violence, destruction and killing people.”

“If we resort to war and keep increasing our capacity to kill and destroy then we cannot call ourselves a civilisation,” he reiterated.

Meanwhile, Malaysia proposes a new currency based on gold as it is more stable compared to the current currency trading which is manipulative in nature.

Dr. Mahathir stressed that by using gold, it could be used to evaluate the exports and imports activities among the East Asian countries.

He said, countries can make settlement using the new currency (using gold). That currency must relate to local currency as to the exchange rate and that is something related to the performance of that country.

“This way we can know how much we owe, how much we have to pay in the special currency of East Asia,” he said during a dialogue session at the 25th International Conference on the Future of Asia (Nikkei Conference) today as reported by Bernama.

Dr. Mahathir arrived in Tokyo last night. He is on his three day working visit.
