PM Anwar wants athlete to return with the first gold medal from Olympic Games 2024 in Paris


[31/01, KUALA LUMPUR, JAN 31. – Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim has challenged the Malaysian contingent to bring back the first gold medal from the Olympic Games that will be held in Paris 2024.

Anwar said, it is not impossible to achieve the high hope if all involved including the Ministry of Youth and Sports, associations, sports body and athletes play their roles and give the best in all the events they participate.

 “I want at least one gold medal will be won at the Olympic Games next year.

“This is my challenge to the Minister, Hannah Yeoh and the President of Malaysia Olympic Council, Tan Sri Mohamad Norza Zakaria,” he said in his speech at the National Sports Award 2021 event at the Banquet Hall National Sports Council (NSC) Bukit Jalil here today.

Anwar added, even though it is permitted with openness to receive whatever the result in any competition but most importantly all athletes should work hard in the best possible ways, as quoted by Bernama.

The Prime Minister stressed that all athletes should work hard while undergoing training and no compromise in this aspect.

He said, the Malaysian athletes should perform in their best efforts to achieve the best and the rest “tawakal” and accept whatever the result with openness.

Meanwhile, track cyclist Datuk Mohd Azizulhasni Awang has recorded a history in Malaysian sports when he won the 2021 National Sportsman Award for the fifth time today.

The national diving queen Datuk Pandelela Rinong was crowned the National Sportswoman for the fourth time with the previous awards coming in 2011, 2012 and 2015.
