KUALA LUMPUR: Prime Minister, Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim is leading the Malaysian delegation to the ASEAN-Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) Summit scheduled on 20th October 2023 in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs said, the prime minister is accompanied by the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Datuk Seri Dr. Zambry Abd. Kadir as well as senior government officials.
“The inaugural ASEAN-GCC Summit stands as a milestone event, marking a pivotal step in deepening and strengthening ties between ASEAN Member States and the GCC.
“This Summit offers a strategic platform for dialogue, allowing leaders to explore avenues of political, economic, and socio-cultural cooperation, while addressing regional and international issues of mutual interest.
“As country coordinator for ASEAN-GCC relation, the participation of Prime Minister in the ASEAN-GCC Summit will emphasize Malaysia’s steadfast commitment to ASEAN at the highest level. This holds particular significance as Malaysia, being one of the five founding countries of ASEAN, has been a responsible and proactive member since the establishment of ASEAN in 1967,” the statement said.
The statement added, following the Summit and at the invitation of the Crown Prince and Prime Minister of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, His Royal Highness Mohammed bin Salman Al Saud, Prime Minister will undertake an official visit to the Kingdom.
The statement highlighted that high on the agenda is to continue the ongoing discussion to elevate bilateral relations between Malaysia and the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, enhancing economic cooperation, collaboration in energy transition, as well as identify new areas of cooperation.
“The visit will also provide an opportunity for leaders of the two countries to exchange views on regional and global issues of mutual interest,” the statement said. –Malaysia World News
