PM Anwar on official visit to Negara Brunei Darussalam Jan 24-25

PUTRAJAYA JAN.24:  Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim is on his inaugural official visit to Negara Brunei Darussalam from 24-25 January 2023 at the invitation of the Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Negara Brunei Darussalam, His Majesty Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah Mu’izzaddin Waddaulah.

Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MOFA) said the Prime Minister is accompanied by Datuk Seri Dr. Zambry Abdul Kadir, Minister of Foreign Affairs, and senior officials from the MOFA and Ministry of International Trade and Industries. In addition, the Premier of Sarawak, Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Dr. Abang  Zohari Tun Abang Haji Openg, and Chief Minister of Sabah, Datuk Seri Panglima Hajiji Noor will also be part of the official delegation.

“Prime Minister is scheduled to have an audience with His Majesty Sultan Brunei and Her Majesty Raja Isteri and followed by a Four-eyed Meeting which will be held at Istana Nurul Iman.

“The meetings will provide the opportunity for both sides to review the progress of bilateral cooperation as well as exploring new areas of cooperation, especially in trade and investment that will bring benefits to both countries,” MOFA said in a statement today.

The statement added the meetings will be followed by an official luncheon hosted by His Majesty the Sultan.  Prime Minister Anwar is also scheduled to meet with the Malaysian diaspora in Bandar Seri Begawan.

According to the statement, in 2022 Brunei Darussalam was Malaysia’s 26th largest global trading partner and the 6th largest among ASEAN member states with total bilateral trade worth RM13.22 billion (USD2.98 billion).

Meanwhile, the total exports to Brunei Darussalam were recorded at RM7.4 billion (USD1.68 billion) while total imports from Brunei Darussalam reached RM5.82 billion (USD1.31 billion). – Malaysia World News
