PM Anwar: Muslims in Malaysia should promote Islamic ethics, accept other religions

KUALA LUMPUR: The Muslims in the country should be more positive and courageous in promoting the Islamic ethics while accepting other religions in Malaysia and the Asian region.

Prime Minister, Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim said, these are among the opinions presented to him by Sheikh Al-Azhar Al-Sharif Professor Dr. Ahmad Muhammad Ahmad At-Tayyeb in the efforts to realize the building of a MADANI nation.

Anwar said, in his meeting this evening (Thursday) the famous religious figure also urged him to be stronger and work harder to gather the strengths of the Muslims and at the same time ensuring the happiness, good attitude and mutual respect and “lita’aruf” among the Muslims and non-Muslims in the country.

“Insya Allah we will fulfil the mandate, his opinion on what he had said in the best possible ways especially for the Muslims to have the ability to empower knowledge discipline and new technology,” he said as reported by Bernama.

He said that in his speech after witnessing the conferment of Honorary Doctorate in Quranic and Sunnah Studies from the Islamic Science University Malaysia (USIM) to Sheikh Al-Azhar that was officiated by USIM’s Pro-Chancellor , Tunku Besar Seri Menanti Tunku Ali Redhauddin Tuanku Muhriz in a Special Convocation Ceremony here Thursday.

This honour recognises Sheikh Ahmad At-Tayyebs’s significant role in pioneering paradigm shifts within his field of expertise, Usuluddin.

Sheikh Prof. Dr. Ahmad At-Tayyeb has been involved in Quranic Studies for over 23 years and served in various capacities including as President of Al-Azhar University for seven years before being appointed as the Grand Imam of Al-Azhar and Al-Azhar Al-Sharif on 19th March 2010, the position he holds to this day.

The conferment ceremony was held in conjunction with the Malaysia Madani International Symposium 2024: Islam and Moderation.

The special four day visit to Malaysia by Sheikh Al-Azhar who holds the status of Prime Minister based on Egyptian Constitution marks a historic moment in the bilateral relations between Malaysia and the Arab Republic of Egypt.

According to Wisma Putra, the visit also demonstrates the close relationship and cooperation between the two countries in their efforts to develop a progressive and dynamic Muslims.
