KUALA LUMPUR: The government affirms that a bit more time is needed to completely solve the sustainability of the supply and the price of rice as it involves a difficult consideration.

Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim said, the government has been doing its best to solve the problem and issues concerning the food security and this he mentioned in his speech and dialogue with the people in the MADANI Rakyat Central Zone, Kuala Selangor Programme held today (Sunday).

Anwar said, the padi planters are amongst the poorest group in the country and the decider for food security and we want the price of padi to commensurate with the situation but on the other hand the people wants the price of rice to remain at the low rate.

“However, I understand this issue cannot be discussed in a long time and hence in the National Action Council on Cost of Living (NACCOL) meeting recently, I have given one month until 20th March for the Ministry of Agriculture and Food Security (MAFS) to finalise the action in solving the problem.

“Regarding the drop in the value of,Ringgit, I have stressed that the government has refused to take the easy way to increase the Overnight Policy Rate (OPR) to recover the currency rate.

“This will obviously affect the people especially those who are indebted with housing loans, vehicle and businesses as they have to make payments with higher rates. Instead the government is actively improving the structure and the national basic economy,” he said in his Facebook post.

Anwar added, the MADANI Government is slowly showing results as the rate of inflation in Malaysia is 1.5 per cent amongst the lowest in ASEAN while unemployment rate drops below 3.5 per cent.

“The share market is also becoming “fresh.” We have succeeded to record the amount of investments approved to RM329.5 billion last year, the highest in the country’s history,” he said.

He said, all the results are the “fruits” of the teams’ hard work accomplished by every MADANI Government machinery. With the national recovery process running now, Malaysia will return strong with the people enjoying the national prosperity. –Malaysia World News
