KUALA LUMPUR: Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim has conveyed his condolences to the Hamas leader Ismail Haniyeh on the loss of his three children Hazem, Amir and Mohammad along with four grandchildren in an air strike by the Israeli regime yesterday.

“On behalf of all Malaysians, I state my unwavering solidarity and strong togetherness spirit with Ismail’s family and all the Palestinian people who had lost their beloved family members.

“The loss of innocent lives, especially the children in such a tragic manner is difficult to be accepted by any human being,” Anwar said in his Facebook post, Thursday.

He said the Israeli’s attack has proven that the Zionist regime has no desire for a ceasefire as demanded by the United Nations Security Council and will not bow and comply with the principles of the international law and regulations.

“This brazen attack by Israel has wiped out any hope towards a peaceful solution based on humanitarian principles and human rights as it will continue to be trampled upon.

“Malaysia once again urges the international community to take stern action and hold Israel to be responsible over this cruelties and needs to work towards bringing peace to Palestinians who have been consistently denied for the past 75 years,” Anwar said.

Meanwhile, in a video of a conversation between him and Ismail shared by Anwar on his Facebook page, Ismail expressed his gratitude towards Malaysia’s support and solidarity with Palestinians in Gaza.

He described yesterday’s air strike as a sign of Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s ill intentions to continue the genocide in Gaza.

“It’s a real sign about Netanyahu’s bad intentions and behaviour, (and that of the) Israeli criminal regime against our people and as we mentioned, this a real massacre and madness against our people since six months ago.

“Once again, we hope to stop this aggression and we appreciate and thank you for your phone call that shows how much Malaysian government and Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim support and feel about (our) brothers in Palestine and Gaza,” he said through a translator.

In another development, earlier the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in a statement said, Malaysia unreservedly condemns Israel’s continuous, indiscriminate as well as targeted attacks against Palestinians, including the airstrikes at the Shati refugee camp in northern Gaza while the Palestinians and more than two billion Muslims worldwide are celebrating Eidul-Fitr.

“The barbaric and senseless acts of the Israeli regime clearly exhibit their abhorrence and culture of impunity, going against every principle of humanity, peace and compassion that this holy occasion symbolises.

“Our hearts go out to the affected families as Malaysia stands firm against these acts of state-sponsored terrorism and genocide. Israel’s continuous aggression will severely hamper the remaining prospects for a ceasefire and peaceful settlement of the conflict, and seriously call into question its intention, if any, for such an objective,” the statement said.

The statement added, the international community must take resolute and concrete actions to stop these atrocities and the man-made catastrophe in Gaza, and bring to account those responsible for such war crimes and crimes against humanity.

The statement also highlighted that the United Nations Security Council, the International Court of Justice and the International Criminal Court must fulfil their responsibilities.

“The Security Council must consider establishing an international criminal tribunal to prosecute and bring to justice those responsible for such crimes,” the statement said. –Malaysia World News
