KUALA LUMPUR: Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim repeated Malaysia’s call to form the Asia Monetary Fund that is in line with the ASEAN initiative to strengthen the economic dependence and security networks in this region.
Anwar said, he has also accepted the declaration of the leaders to move the regional interconnectedness payments and encourage business transactions using local currencies.
“Relating to the Post ASEAN Community Vision 2025, I believe ASEAN should portray confidence and high level of preparedness to grasp the opportunities to bring positive changes to the people and the region,” he said in his speech at the pleno session of the 42nd ASEAN Summit held in Labuan Bajo, Indonesia today.
The Tambun Member of Parliament said he had also touched on the need to strengthen the ASEAN geopolitics and geo-economy and form international order that is fair and ethical in line with the Malaysia’s Madani concept introduced by Putrajaya.
Anwar added, the ASEAN members’ commitment and togetherness is needed to find a good solution on Myanmar’s issue specifically when Malaysia is forced to “struggle” with more than 200,000 Burmese refugees.
“ASEAN region could possibly develop together!” he said in his Facebook post today. –Malaysia World News
