KUALA LUMPUR: Prime Minister, Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim has expressed his thanks via a video call from Makkah, Saudi Arabia to the government of Malaysia and several other countries that have helped the process in evacuating a Malaysian, Nurul Ain Haron and her Palestinian husband, Mohamed A.M Shaat from the Gaza Peninsular since the war erupted on 7th October 2023.
In his facebook post Anwar said, Nurul Ain and her husband had been successfully taken out from Gaza on 12th Nov.2023 at the Rafah border.
“In our conversation, Nurul and her husband have expressed their appreciations to the government of Malaysia that has put in all efforts to ensure the process to bring them out from the war zone could be realized.
“In this context, I would like to record my thanks to the embassy of Malaysia that has never given up hope to ensure the process of evacuating the husband and wife from Gaza is safe,” Anwar said.
Anwar had attended the 8th Extraordinary Islamic Summit of OIC in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia on 11th November and following that had performed his umrah in Makkah before he flew to San Francisco, US to attend the Asia Pacific Economic Cooperation (Apec) Economic Leaders’ Week scheduled on 11-17 Nov. 2023.
Earlier, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in a statement said, Nurul Ain and her husband had been taken out from Gaza via the Rafah Border Crossing at 8.23 pm, 12th Nov.2023 (Malaysian time) with the help of the Ambassador of Malaysia to Egypt and other officers from the embassy.
The statement added, the evacuation process had been made possible following the meeting between Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim and the President of Republic of Egypt, Abdel Fattah al-Sisi on 23rd Oct. 2023 and then further coordination was followed by the Malaysian Embassy in Cairo and Embassy in Amman, Jordan. The embassy in Cairo has also been giving councillor’s assistance to Nurul Ain and her husband.
“The Ministry of Foreign Affairs would like to record our appreciation and thanks to the government of Egypt, government of Qatar, Egypt and Qatar Embassies in Kuala Lumpur for the cooperation and priorities that have been given to Malaysia in the efforts to evacuate Malaysian citizens who are staying in the conflict area of Gaza,” the statement said. – Malaysia World News
